Future cruise terminal in Tahiti
Tahiti, March 24, 2022 – The international cruise terminal in Tahiti is due to enter into service in March 2023 after 12 months of work. The ambition behind this development is to maintain Polynesia in the very competitive category of destinations of choice for cruise ships.
The international cruise terminal will develop on a developed area of 2,700 square meters, on three levels. Housed in lush greenery, the building is sized to handle a simultaneous flow of 1,400 cruise passengers with the possibility of increasing this capacity to 2,400 visitors, by adding mobile structures. On site, the premises are designed to allow a smooth reception of this passenger traffic, for check-in formalities and for luggage storage, while improving the safety and comfort of cruise passengers, in compliance with the standards of the international code for ship security. The project also includes a space of 300 m2 reserved for local craft products and another of 500 m2 for the exhibition of objects testifying to the maritime history of the Polynesian people. At the request of the town hall of Papeete, the project now includes an underground public car park with 205 spaces. The site will be linked to downtown Papeete by a pedestrian walkway spanning Boulevard Pomare. A project which as a whole is part of the continuity of the pedestrian promenade on the seafront, between the Paofai gardens and the ferry terminal.
The international cruise terminal project is designed on the principle of bioclimatic architecture, to optimize the thermal comfort of users by making the most of the natural ventilation of the port of Papeete. The materials selected are adapted to the climatic conditions and the sea air. The project also relies on the establishment of aerial green spaces and the recovery of rainwater to display an environmentally friendly design. Eco-fiendly approach that will be observed during the work phase, in the coming months. The group of companies selected to carry out this project undertakes to provide an organization and waste management plan as well as an environmental compliance plan.

ETIS and detecting tests on arrival at fenua abolished
As of March 28, registration on ETIS to come to French Polynesia will no longer be required. Similarly, detecting tests on arrival will be abolished.
The decree of May 13, 2020 adopted at the start of the Covid-19 epidemic in the territory, in order to organize and supervise the surveillance of travelers arriving in French Polynesia, has been repealed by the Council of Ministers.
This decision is taken due to the favorable evolution of the Covid-19 epidemic. Indeed, between vaccination and the immunity acquired by the viral circulation of the different variants, and in particular by the Omicron variant, the local and global population now has a certain level of immunity and all the countries raise a part or all sanitary measures.
Thus, as of March 28, registration on ETIS to come to French Polynesia will no longer be required. Similarly, health measures (screening tests) on arrival by air and sea will be abolished.
For its part, the High Commission points out that the procedure related to the declaration of compelling reasons will be simplified from March 28. The travel of travelers aged 12 and over who have not been vaccinated or whose vaccination schedule is incomplete remains subject to compelling family, professional or health reasons, but the checks will be carried out by the carriers. Consequently, the travelers concerned must download, print and complete the declaration of compelling reason (available on the High Commission's website) accompanied by proof of the situation invoked and present these documents to the company on the day of their departure. airline which will be responsible for checking them during check-in and determining the validity of the reason invoked.
The dedicated site mes-démarches.gov.pf, currently used to submit a mandatory request for compelling reasons at least 6 days before boarding in order to allow the services of the High Commission to proceed with the control of each of these requests, will be suspended. Starting March 28.
In addition, the Haussariat specifies that national and international travelers subject to compelling reasons bound for French Polynesia will now be subject to prophylactic isolation (self-isolation) for 7 days. The mandatory administrative quarantine of 7 days upon their arrival in Tahiti set up by the services of the Country and the State will therefore no longer apply.
People over the age of 12 must, however, always carry out an antigen or RT-PCR test within 24 hours before leaving for French Polynesia from mainland France or abroad.
